Romans 8:7(KJV) “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV) “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
Human nature is inherently carnal and does not naturally align with the principles of God due to the fallen state of mankind. The flesh is inclined toward worldly desires such as fornication, idolatry, drinking, smoking, theft, and other sinful behaviors. To overcome these tendencies, we need an external power, one that transcends human strength.
“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” Romans 8:7 (KJV)
Our good deeds, no matter how noble, are not sufficient to earn us entry into heaven. We must be covered by the white robe of Jesus’ righteousness. Jesus took our place and bore the penalty of sin so that we might be clothed in His righteousness and stand blameless before God.
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
Reflection:
Where has my righteousness been hidden all along?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the strength You have given us thus far to overcome the pleasures of the flesh. We ask that You help us walk more in the Spirit and cut off the tendencies of the flesh. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen
