He Can Make Us New

Imagine a world teeming with life, the earth, made beautiful and perfect. A natural question arises: what means were employed in its creation? Psalm 33:9 and Hebrews 11:3 reveal the answer: God spoke the world into existence. The very word of God holds the power to create, to bring into being things that were not.

Think of it: if God were to speak, “Let this room become green,” it would instantly transform. This same creative power is at work in our spiritual lives. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). He can create us anew.

Let us not be tempted to believe that God is incapable of working in our lives, that we are left to mend ourselves. It is only God who can truly recreate us. As Psalm 51:10 implores, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” The word of God, as recorded in the Bible, retains its creative power. As we read, meditate, accept, and act upon it, it recreates, guides, and leads us.

Reflection:

  • Consider the areas of your life where you feel broken or in need of renewal. Are you trying to fix them on your own, or are you surrendering them to God’s creative power?
  • Do you truly believe that God can create something new from nothing?
  • Think on the power of God’s spoken word. How does that make you feel?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for the incredible power of your word, the power that created the universe and the power that can recreate me. Lord, I confess that I often try to fix my own life, relying on my own strength and wisdom. Forgive me for my self-reliance and help me to fully surrender to your transformative power.

Lord, I bring before you the areas of my life that need your touch [mention specific areas]. Create in me a clean heart, renew a right spirit within me. Help me to truly meditate on your word, allowing it to shape and guide me.

I believe that you can make all things new. I trust in your power to recreate me, to guide me, and to lead me in your perfect way. Thank you for your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
